In 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) brought power to the people and individuals gained control over the information that others have about them. This supported EU citizens, and set the gold standard followed by most nations today.
Approximately 6.6 billion people* -- over 80% of the world's population -- is covered by some form of national data privacy law, giving people the rights to know which companies have their data, how their data is used, and most importantly the rights to control their data.
